2ha Public Open Space at Woodlands Baldivis
A new destination for play, nature and outdoor recreation. Now open to the community!
A new space to play, explore and connect with nature
The 2ha public open space at Woodlands Baldivis has been designed as a place for the whole community to enjoy. With a nature-inspired playground, open lawn areas, accessible paths, mature trees and spaces to gather, the park offers something for children, families and residents of all ages.
The masterplan brings together a range of spaces and experiences, including nature play, open lawn areas, walking paths, seating and areas for community recreation.
Nature-inspired playground design
The playground has been designed around the existing mature trees, creating a natural setting for play and exploration.
A series of interconnected play spaces caters to different ages and abilities, with opportunities to climb, balance, slide, explore and discover. Natural materials, boulders, timber elements and planting help create an immersive outdoor experience.
At the heart of the design is a special woodland area featuring mature eucalypts. This space will be brought to life with thoughtfully placed nature play elements that can be enjoyed from both inside the woodland and along its edges.
Key features of the space include:
-
Play areas designed around nature-based themes
-
Large flat turf area for ball games and exercise
-
Accessible pedestrian and cycle paths connecting different zones
-
Lookout points with views of the landscape
-
Grassed amphitheatre
-
Woodland walkway
-
20m flying fox
-
Electric BBQ
Many of the play elements are intentionally unstructured, encouraging child-led play and free exploration. The space is designed for a range of age groups, offering challenges through varied surfaces, levels, and textures; focusing on reconnecting with nature.
The overall style will feel organic and natural, using materials like boulders, stepping stones, wooden poles for play structures, and plants with diverse colours and textures.
